RHA 2015

The Royal Hibernian Academy 185th Exhibition ran from the 26th May to the 8th August 2015 at their gallery in Ely Place, Dublin.     I was pleased to have a  work exhibited in the show.

'The Jetty' is an oil on board which measures 20 X 30 cm.

As part of the exhibition schedule the RHA invited participating artists to a 'Varnishing Day' prior to the official opening of the exhibition to the public.   This was a great opportunity for me to reconnect with artists from around Ireland that I hadn't seen for ages and also the idea of a 'varnishing day' seems to really highlight the history of this event, the 185th exhibition this year.

Shadow Light Symposium Saturday 20th June 2015 Limerick City Gallery of Art

This afternoon symposium was organised in association with Gavin Hogg’s exhibition ‘Shadow Light’ that is currently running at Limerick City Gallery. Speakers taking part were Dr. Mathew Mather, Director of the course in Jungian Psychology at LIT Clonmel, Gavin Hogg discussing his work and influences and myself, Nuala O'Sullivan.

The topic was ‘the possibilities of painting as a language of contemporary expression’.

I made a presentation about my own work, and my most recent project, on the subject of photography and painting.  A new experience for me presenting in this situation but the presentations gave rise to a really interesting discussion between the audience and presenters. It was great to see so many people there interested in painting as a medium and prepared to put their views forward.
http://gallery.limerick.ie/SHADOWLIGHTSYMPOSIUM.html has all the details, and images of Gavin’s exhibition are on the site too.   The exhibition the runs until the 10th July, 2015.

Short Video Piece

This video piece was made late last year. I have been reluctant to post it, as I guess, like many people, hearing my own voice and seeing myself on video for the first time is a bit scary.  But for all that, here goes!  It is a short piece about my work process and my painting made at my studio space in Contact Studios, Limerick.

The video was shot and edited by Andrew Gallivan from Limerick.
